Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and comparing the data between 2015 and 2016. You successfully highlighted the dominant and minor sectors and noted the trends of decline and incline. However, the overview is slightly underdeveloped, and there are some inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, you mention that Agricultural products 'growed 0.81', but the unit is missing, and the phrasing is imprecise. To improve, ensure that all figures are clearly linked to their respective units (billions) and that the overview provides a more comprehensive summary of the overall trends rather than just listing categories.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', and 'However'. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by mechanical phrasing and some awkward transitions. The use of referencing is sometimes unclear, and the paragraphing, while present, could be more effectively used to group related information. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus that guides the reader through the data points smoothly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it is somewhat repetitive and contains several errors in word choice and form. For example, you use 'incline' as a noun and 'growed' as a verb, both of which are incorrect in this context. There is also a lack of precision in reporting the data. To improve, you should aim to use more sophisticated vocabulary related to trends, such as 'experienced a marginal increase' or 'witnessed a significant downturn', and ensure that you use the correct word forms consistently throughout your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'chart illustrate', 'Textiels was minor'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'growed'), and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization and sentence boundaries. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your verb tenses are consistent when describing past data. Proofreading for these fundamental errors will significantly enhance the clarity and professionalism of your writing.
