Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task. You have provided a clear overview of the main trends and supported these with specific data points from both the chart and the table. You correctly identified the leading category and noted the significant changes in textiles and gems/jewellery. The information is well-selected, and the comparisons between 2015 and 2016 are accurate. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are transcribed perfectly; for instance, you mentioned $60 billion for petroleum in 2015, but the chart indicates it was slightly higher. Overall, the report is well-structured and covers the requirements effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs that group the data effectively. You use cohesive devices such as 'While', 'Overall', 'however', and 'In contrast' to guide the reader through the information. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the general trends from the specific data analysis. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the referencing is generally clear. To improve, ensure that the transition between sentences is more varied, as some sentences feel slightly repetitive in their structure when listing figures.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrates', 'export earnings', 'proportion of change', and 'significant rise'. You are able to convey information clearly. However, there are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'category price of exports' (which should be 'export category') and 'significant changed had seen' (which is grammatically awkward). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing when describing numerical increases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'the significant changed had seen with 8.5%' is syntactically incorrect, and there are issues with pluralization, such as '$60 billions' (should be '$60 billion'). Additionally, there are minor errors in verb tense and preposition usage. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will help improve your accuracy.
