Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the data, including the highest earners and the general trends. You covered all categories and included the percentage changes as required. However, the overview is slightly weak; while you mentioned petroleum and textiles, you could have provided a more comprehensive summary of the overall trends across all categories to better meet the requirements for a higher band. Additionally, some data points, such as the specific value for the textile industry in 2016, could be more clearly linked to the provided table data to ensure complete accuracy in reporting.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'however', 'whereas', and 'moreover' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For instance, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, but some sentences feel slightly disjointed due to repetitive sentence structures. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'earnings', 'proportion change', and 'industry'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'slightly crossed 60 billion$' and 'growled 0.81%'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your report. To reach a higher band, try to use more sophisticated vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'surpassed', 'experienced a marginal increase', or 'witnessed a decline', rather than relying on simpler phrasings.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and prepositions, such as 'it grows more' (should be 'grew') and 'by the exporting of' (should be 'in the export of'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and phrasing issues, such as 'reached at approximately'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the information, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will help improve your score.
