Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing the bar chart and the table. You have identified the main features, such as the highest and lowest export values and the percentage changes. However, the analysis is somewhat descriptive and lacks a clear overview or 'summary' paragraph that highlights the most significant trends across both data sets. While you mention specific figures, the comparison between the two years could be more integrated. To improve, ensure you synthesize the information rather than listing data points category by category, and provide a clear opening statement that summarizes the overall trend.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the use of 'Whereas' and 'While' at the start of sentences is often grammatically incorrect, as these are subordinating conjunctions that should link clauses rather than start new sentences. Additionally, the transition between the bar chart description and the table analysis is abrupt. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'the former', 'the latter') is used correctly would enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information, including terms like 'earnings', 'percentage change', and 'upwards trend'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'earned little less' (should be 'earned slightly less') and 'fell up to 5.18%' (which is confusing; 'fell by' is more appropriate). There is also some repetition of basic verbs like 'earned' and 'increase'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise reporting verbs and adverbs to describe the data, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a marginal decline'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in punctuation and grammar. Specifically, there are issues with capitalization (e.g., 'Whereas', 'Which', 'Engineered'), incorrect comma usage, and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Petroleum products increases'). The misuse of subordinating conjunctions at the beginning of sentences creates fragments. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the data, they are frequent enough to limit the score. Focusing on sentence boundary control and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with correct conjunctions will significantly improve your accuracy.
