Student answer (Band 6.0)
The chart illustrates the value of a country's exports in various categories between 2015 and 2016 while the table represents the percentage change in a single category of exports in 2016 compared with 2015.
Overall, petroleum products and engineered goods show the highest export earnings while textile and agricultural products represent the lowest export earnings. The table shows the difference in percentages in two years that came from export earnings.
First of all, in 2016, earnings were 62 billion dollars which was slightly higher than the previous year with an increase in percentage by value of 3% . Engineering goods and textiles had also displayed the same trend. In 2016, from engineering goods almost 61 billion dollars were generated and nearly 55 billion dollars came in 2015 which was slightly less than 2016 and percentage difference increased to 8.5%.
Regarding textiles, approximately 31 billion dollars were earned in 2016 as well as 25 billion dollars in 2015, and percentage showed the highest value 15.24%. If we see, gems and jewellery, it showed a contrasting trend. Here more income was generated in 2015 that was 42 billion dollars while in the next year, earnings declined and reached 40 billion dollars and percentage also declined to 5.18%. At last, agricultural products exhibited a marginal increase in 2016 from 31 billion dollars in 2015 to 32 billion dollars.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task, including the chart and the table. You have identified the main features and made relevant comparisons, such as noting the contrasting trend in gems and jewellery. However, the overview is slightly weak; it focuses on the highest and lowest earners but misses the broader picture of the overall growth trend. Additionally, the description of the data is sometimes repetitive, and the interpretation of the table's percentage change could be more precise. To reach a higher band, ensure the overview highlights the most significant trends across the entire dataset rather than just listing categories.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organised into paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Regarding', 'In 2016', and 'At last', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'The table shows the difference in percentages in two years that came from export earnings.' Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would enhance the flow and coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'export earnings', 'generated', 'contrasting trend', and 'marginal increase'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'increase in percentage by value of 3%', which is slightly awkward. You also tend to repeat the same sentence structures and vocabulary when describing the figures. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' and use more precise collocations when discussing financial data to demonstrate a more flexible range of vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'percentage difference increased to 8.5%' (which is slightly ambiguous) and 'If we see, gems and jewellery'. There are also some issues with punctuation and article usage. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining the use of complex sentence structures will help improve your accuracy and range.
