Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task, providing a clear overview and selecting key features from both the chart and table. However, there is a significant factual error in the final paragraph: you state that gems and jewellery 'dipped' while the data shows an increase. Additionally, the interpretation of the percentage change data is slightly confused; you refer to 'percentage points' when the data represents percentage change, and the calculation for gems and jewellery is contradictory to the provided table. To improve, ensure that your summary of the data is strictly accurate and that you distinguish clearly between absolute values and percentage changes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Finally' helps to guide the reader through the information. However, the progression of ideas is slightly hampered by the factual inaccuracies mentioned in the task achievement section, which makes the logical flow feel inconsistent. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different categories of exports. To reach a higher band, ensure that the transition between sentences is smoother and that the data points are linked more precisely to the trends being described.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'depicts', 'illustrates', 'alteration', and 'substantial'. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'had faced decrease' (should be 'faced a decrease') and 'by 5.18 percentage points' (which is technically incorrect terminology for percentage change). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Focusing on more precise collocations and ensuring the correct use of statistical terminology will help improve your score in this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the textiles experienced the highest increase... while the gems and jewellery group had faced decrease' (missing article) and 'had faced a minimal increase by 3%' (tense usage is slightly awkward). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they are frequent enough to limit the score. To improve, pay closer attention to article usage, verb tenses, and the correct prepositional phrases when describing statistical changes.
