Student answer (Band 7.0)

The given bar chart and table illustrate the export earning for a particular nation across five product categories in 2015 and 2016, alongside the percentage changes in export value over this one-year period.

Overall, export revenues increased across almost all categories over the period, with the exception of gems and jewellery, which experienced a slight decline. petroleum products consistently generated the highest total export revenue in both years, whereas textile saw the most significance growth rate.

In terms of high-earning, petroleum products led earning at over 60 billion dollar in 2015, rising by 3% to reach $63 billion in 2016. Engineered goods followed a similar upward trend, growing by 8.5% from approximately $57 billion to nearly $62 billion, making it the second highest source of export revenue.

By contrast, earning from gems and jewellery dropped by 5.18%, falling from around $44 billion to $41 billion. Agriculture product exports remained relatively stable, experiencing a minor growth of 0.81% to finish at just over $30 billion. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response effectively addresses all parts of the task. You have provided a clear overview of the trends and successfully selected and reported the main features, such as the dominance of petroleum products and the growth in textiles. Comparisons are made throughout, and the data is accurately represented. To reach a higher band, ensure that all figures are transcribed perfectly; for instance, the text mentions '4@6 billion', which is a typographical error that slightly obscures the data. Overall, the information is well-selected and supports the summary effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is smooth, and you have used a range of cohesive devices such as 'whereas', 'by contrast', and 'notably' to link information effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different categories. The referencing is generally clear, and the flow of the report is easy to follow. There is a minor issue with the mechanical error in the final paragraph, but it does not significantly disrupt the overall coherence of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information with precision, using terms like 'export revenues', 'upward trend', and 'sharpest growth'. There is some awareness of style and collocation, which is appropriate for an Academic Task 1 report. However, there are occasional errors, such as 'textile saw the most significance growth rate' (should be 'significant') and the typo '4@6 billion'. While these do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching the highest band for lexical resource. Expanding your range of synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' would further enhance your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most of your sentences are error-free, and your control over grammar and punctuation is generally good. There are a few minor slips, such as 'textile record' (should be 'textiles recorded') and 'earning from gems' (should be 'earnings'). These are non-systematic errors that do not hinder the reader's understanding. To improve, ensure consistent subject-verb agreement and check for small typographical errors before finalizing your work. The variety of structures used is sufficient for a high band score.
