Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarize the data, but it fails to accurately report the figures. For instance, the description of petroleum products and engineered goods is confusing and contradicts the visual data provided in the chart. The overview is present but lacks clarity, and the report of the percentage changes is incomplete, as the text cuts off mid-sentence. While the main features are identified, the lack of precision in reporting the data and the failure to complete the analysis significantly hinder the task achievement. To improve, ensure that data points are clearly stated and that the summary is fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the overall structure. However, the logical progression is frequently interrupted by unclear phrasing and grammatical errors. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with' and 'Moreover' are used, but they do not always connect ideas logically. The referencing is sometimes confusing, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two years. The abrupt ending of the final paragraph also negatively impacts the cohesion of the response. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring clear transitions between sentences would enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'proportion transformation' instead of 'percentage change' and 'more than 60 billion money' instead of '60 billion dollars'. Spelling errors like 'jewrllery' and 'declined' used incorrectly as a verb form ('was declined') further detract from the quality. The student relies on basic terminology and struggles to use precise academic vocabulary to describe trends or data points. Expanding the range of synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' and focusing on correct collocations would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'the highest number of petroleum products delivered', and incorrect tense usage. The sentence structures are often simplistic or fragmented, and punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalization. The incomplete sentence at the end of the text is a significant grammatical failure. To reach a higher band, the student needs to focus on sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that complex structures are used with greater accuracy.
