Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all categories and provides a clear overview of the trends. However, the overview is slightly inaccurate as it states all products increased, whereas the data shows Gems and Jewellery decreased. The reporting of data is generally accurate, but the analysis lacks a more sophisticated comparison between the categories. The inclusion of the table data is well-integrated, but the overall summary could be more precise to better reflect the provided figures. The response meets the requirements of the task by selecting and reporting main features.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'similarly', 'in 2015'). The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the transition between the general overview and the specific data points could be smoother. While the paragraphing is sufficient, the overall flow would benefit from a more varied range of linking words to connect the sentences and ideas more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There is frequent repetition of basic terms like 'increased', 'products', and 'billions'. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary, the phrasing is often awkward or unnatural, such as 'export earning products' or 'both years difference'. To reach a higher band, the student should aim for more sophisticated collocations and avoid repeating the same verbs and nouns throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Petroleum products was'), incorrect verb tenses ('roses' instead of 'rose'), and awkward sentence construction ('the highest increased is textiles'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing after commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to detract from the clarity of the report and indicate a need for better control over basic grammatical structures.
