Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing the main features of both the chart and the table. You have successfully identified the highest and lowest categories and noted the percentage changes. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a more sophisticated synthesis of the data. For instance, while you mention the values for petroleum and textiles, the comparison between categories could be more nuanced. The overview is present, but it could be more effectively integrated to highlight the most significant trends rather than just listing facts. To reach a higher band, ensure that the 'main features' are clearly highlighted as the most important trends rather than just a collection of individual data points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a brief concluding sentence. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the overview from the detailed data. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and occasionally mechanical (e.g., 'The least earning was...', 'The engineered goods export create...'). The transition between sentences could be smoother to improve the flow of information. While the progression of ideas is clear, the lack of varied linking words makes the text feel slightly disjointed. Improving the variety of cohesive devices, such as using 'conversely' or 'in contrast' for the gems and jewellery category, would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have used an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'petroleum products', 'engineered goods', and 'percentage change'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'earning from petroleum products had more than $60 billions' (should be 'earnings were over $60 billion') and 'textiles products compared than other products'. The use of 'create' instead of 'generated' or 'accounted for' also limits the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on using more accurate collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise descriptors for trends and data would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'a country exports' (missing possessive 'country's'), 'which were highest than' (should be 'higher than'), and 'There was increased in export' (should be 'There was an increase in exports'). Additionally, there are issues with subject-verb agreement and pluralization, such as 'textiles products' and 'agriculture product'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and sentence construction will be beneficial.
