Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarise the chart and table provided, touching upon several key categories such as petroleum products, gems and jewellery, and engineered goods. However, the interpretation of the data is frequently confusing, inaccurate, or incomplete. For instance, the student states that the country gained 3% in petroleum products compared to 2015, but misreads or misrepresents many figures and percentages throughout the text, leading to a weak overall overview and limited development of main features. The introduction fails to provide a clear summary of the visual data. Consequently, this performance aligns closely with Band 5, where the task is addressed only partially and ideas are limited or unclear.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The text exhibits severe organisational and cohesive issues. While basic transition markers like 'firstly', 'moving to further details', and 'overall' are attempted, they fail to structure the response into logical paragraphs. The paragraphs are dense and difficult to follow due to poor referencing ('they follow petroleum products earning') and repetitive structures. There is no clear overall progression or logical grouping of data. Cohesive devices are often inadequate or misused. This corresponds to Band 4, as information and ideas are not arranged coherently.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, frequently relying on phrases like 'earned', 'earning', and 'more than'. There are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and odd word choices, such as 'most money making export' and 'the engineers in the country have gained more'. Spelling and word formation errors also appear, limiting the range of vocabulary to a minimally adequate level where communication is occasionally strained. This fits the Band 4 descriptor, where vocabulary is basic and repetitive, causing difficulty for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The student displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple or poorly constructed compound sentences that are frequently ungrammatical. There are persistent errors in subject-verb agreement, tense usage, and clause structure (e.g., 'the value increased more than 50billion to 60billion in year', 'it gains popularity in year 2016 and earned was increased'). Punctuation is also erratic and spacing errors are frequent. These frequent errors distort meaning and make parts of the text difficult to read, which is characteristic of Band 4.
