Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to address all parts of the prompt by summarizing the main features of the export earnings chart and the percentage change table. However, there are significant inaccuracies in reporting the data. For instance, the student states that 'export earning from petroleum products was heigher accounted for 61 billion' in 2016, whereas 61 billion was the figure for 2015 while 2016 was 63 billion. Furthermore, data points across the body paragraphs become confused, such as stating 'gems and jewellery was slightly up represented 42 billion in 2015' when the chart shows 43 billion for 2015 and a decrease to 41 billion in 2016. While an overview is attempted, the confusion over specific figures and mix-up between the chart values and percentage changes limit the effectiveness of the task response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into four paragraphs, following a logical layout of introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. However, logical progression within paragraphs is frequently disrupted by inaccurate data reporting and weak cohesive ties. Transitional phrases like 'Turning to the table' are used, but the way information is grouped creates confusion, as table percentages and bar chart figures are intermingled rather than systematically compared. Paragraphing is present, but referencing is sometimes unclear, such as pronoun use and abrupt shifts between categories.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting appropriate topic-related terms such as 'exports', 'earnings', 'category', and 'percentage'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors ('catagories', 'heigher', 'howerver', 'inclined' instead of 'increased') and awkward phrasing such as 'made 31 billion' and 'represented 42 billion'. These lexical errors and limited control over precise collocation constrain the vocabulary score to the lower-mid range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'The bar chart compares the exports of different categories...' and 'Overall, it can be seen that...'. However, grammatical control is weak, with frequent errors including tense inconsistencies, missing prepositions, and faulty relative clauses ('exports for gems and jewellery was slightly up represented 42 billion'). Punctuation is also erratic in places, particularly missing commas after introductory phrases. These errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader.
