Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student covers all main parts of the prompt by reporting data for both years and making comparisons across categories. However, there are significant data misinterpretations that pull the score down. For example, the student writes that petroleum products were "60% in 2015", confusing billions of dollars with percentages, and later states that textiles had a "25 dollars gain in 2015" when the chart shows 26 billion dollars. Furthermore, the claim that "no change in collection of money is observed in agricultural goods" contradicts the table showing a 0.81% increase and the chart showing a rise from 31 to 31.5 billion. While an overview is attempted, it describes the axes rather than highlighting the overarching trends. This performance aligns best with Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is structured into an introduction, an overview paragraph, and a detailed body paragraph. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Additionally', and 'Comparatively' are used to connect ideas, though some transitional phrasing feels somewhat mechanical or awkward. Paragraphing is attempted, but the main body is condensed into a single massive block of text rather than being logically broken down by category or trend, which impedes easy navigation of the data. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as mixing up values and percentages. Overall cohesion meets the criteria for Band 5.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for a basic task summary, employing terms like 'profit gained', 'downturn', and 'spike'. However, there are notable lexical inaccuracies and awkward collocations throughout the text. For instance, the phrase 'worth of one nations exports in different classifications' contains a missing apostrophe and an imprecise noun choice. The student frequently misuses numerical terms, describing billions of dollars as 'percentage' or simply as 'dollars' without the correct unit. There are also spelling errors such as 'slighlty'. This repertoire fits Band 5.0 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and introductory dependent clauses (e.g., 'where it was 60% in 2015 and slighlty lifted in 2016'). However, control over grammar is inconsistent. There are numerous structural errors and awkward phrasings, such as 'correlate to 2015' instead of 'compared to 2015', and 'the chart x-axis is showing'. Punctuation is also neglected in places, notably with missing apostrophes in possessives ('nations exports'). The frequency of errors causes occasional difficulty for the reader, placing this response at Band 5.0.
