The chart below shows the value of one country’s exports in various categories during 2015 and 2016. The table shows the percentage change in each category of exports in 2016 compared with 2015.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.0)
The bar chart illustrates the earnings of a country's export in five different categories from 2015 to 2016, while the table shows the percentage change in values of export in each category between 2015 and 2016.
Overall, petroleum products, engineered goods and textiles represented the substantial growth. In contrast, gems and jewellery was the only one among all categories which experienced a significant decline.
Export earnings of petroleum products rose from around $61 billion in 2015 to approximately $63 billion in 2016, representing a increase of 3%. Engineered goods represented earnings of about $57 billion in 2015, followed by a roughly $62 billion in 2016, with a rise of 8.5%.
In contrast, gems and jewelley's export earnings fell from $44 billion in 2015 to around $41 billion in 2016, which reflected a decline of 5.18%. Agricultural products represented a slight rise from about $31 billion in 2015 to approximately $32 billions in 2016, reflecting a marginal growth of 0.81%. Finally, textiles shown a substantial increase of 15.24% in values among all categories, its earnings figure climbed from about $27 billion in 2015 to approximately $32 billion in 2016.
