The chart below shows the value of one country’s exports in various categories during 2015 and 2016. The table shows the percentage change in each category of exports in 2016 compared with 2015.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The bar chart illustrates data on the value of export of a country in five different categories from 2015 to 2016. The table demonstrates the percentage alterations in the export of each category in 2016 by contrast to 2015.

Overall, the exports of most categories increased in the following year, despite a minor fluctuation in one category. The petroleum products and engineered goods recorded the largest export earnings. Furthermore, the export value of textiles experienced the major change of 15%.

Looking at the export earnings, petroleum products had the largest export in 2015 at just over $60 billion and increased 3% in the next year. In comparison, although engineered products initially recorded the slightly smaller export, its export climbed up, and showing the equal export's value of petroleum product in 2016 at approximately $62 billion but with the change of 8.5%.

Notably, textiles category faced the overall grestest increase in export value of 15.24% over the two-year period, reaching almost $30 billion by the end. By contrast, the figure of agricultural products represented a minimal change of 0.81%. In addition, exports of gems and jewellery experienced a slight decline of almost 5%, reaching approximately at $40 billion.
