Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task by summarising the main features of the chart and table. It identifies the highest export categories, such as petroleum and engineered products, and notes the general upward trends and the downward trend for gems and jewellery. However, there are notable inaccuracies in reading and reporting the data. For instance, the student states that gems and jewellery decreased to '40 billion dollar' (actual was 41) and that agricultural products rose by '0.18%' (actual was 0.81%). Furthermore, the overview is somewhat confused and difficult to follow. Because some figures are misread or vague and ideas are not fully developed with precise supporting data, the response falls into Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, attempting an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. However, the logical progression is hindered by poor referencing and confusing transitions (e.g., 'Firslty' and 'Secondly'). Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, and sentences often lack smooth connections. For example, the concluding remarks ('As all the products rose but the gems and jewlry were decrease. So they are stable are also mentioned like petrolum.') are very disjointed and fail to summarise the data effectively. Paragraphing is attempted, but overall cohesion is faulty and mechanical, aligning with Band 5 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student attempts to use task-related vocabulary such as 'export', 'categories', 'percentage', and product names. However, the lexical range is narrow and repetitive ('rise', 'time passage', 'with time of 2015 to 2016'). There are numerous word choice and spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'substituently', 'beacuse', 'didnt much rise', 'Firslty', 'upbring', and 'jewlry'. These lexical inaccuracies and limited control over less common vocabulary restrict the response to Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 based on the positive interpretation of minimally adequate vocabulary for the task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty, leading to ungrammatical constructions such as 'The bar chart illustrate the percentage of country’s export' (subject-verb agreement error and missing article) and 'petroleum and engineered products are highest as they are increasing with passage of time while agriculture and textiles products are at least beacuse they didnt much rise'. Punctuation and spacing errors are also common. Errors are frequent and often cause difficulty for the reader, which places the grammar firmly at Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0.
