Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The student covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features from both the bar chart and the table. Data points are generally accurate, such as noting petroleum exports at around 60 billion in 2015 and rising to 62 or 63 billion in 2016, along with referencing the correct percentage changes. An overview is present at the end, summarising the general trends (growth in most categories, a slight decline in gems and jewellery, and stability in agriculture). However, the response tends to list data point by point rather than fully synthesising or grouping comparisons, which prevents it from reaching a higher band. Nevertheless, all core requirements of Task 1 are addressed adequately.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs dedicated to different export categories, and a concluding overview. However, cohesion is frequently faulty or mechanical due to heavy reliance on run-on sentences and comma splices, such as 'In 2015 Petroleum was exported and revenue generated from it was around 60 billion $ where as , in 2016 it grew slightly...' Referencing and linking between sentences often lack smoothness, resulting in a slightly disjointed flow. Paragraphing is present and follows a structural logic, but the lack of controlled cohesive devices keeps this criterion at band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary relevant to the visual data, including terms such as 'revenue', 'export', 'percentage change', and 'decline'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary like 'nominal growth' and 'significantly grew'. However, there are notable word choice and phrasing issues, such as 'graphas', 'reve was', and 'exports savings', alongside awkward collocation patterns. Spelling and word formation errors appear throughout the text, though they do not completely impede overall communication, placing the response firmly at band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over punctuation and sentence boundaries is weak. The text contains numerous run-on sentences joined improperly by commas rather than conjunctions or full stops (e.g., 'Engineered goods had earning of near to 58 billion $ in 2015 , its revenue inclined in 2016...'). Grammatical errors, including missing articles, incorrect verb forms, and awkward phrasing, are frequent. While simple sentences are generally understandable, complex structures are often faulty, leading to frequent errors that cause some difficulty for the reader.
