The chart below shows the value of one country’s exports in various categories during 2015 and 2016. The table shows the percentage change in each category of exports in 2016 compared with 2015.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The bar chart illustrates the earnings of one nation from its exports of five different types of products (petroleum products, engineered goods, gems and jewellery, agricultural products and textiles) in two different year of 2015 and 2016. Additionally, the table depicts the percentage change in the values of these five products in the same year of time. Currency is provided in billion dollars.
Overall, in 2016, the earnings from the export of all the given goods has been increased from the previous year except one, i.e. gems and jewellery. The textiles were seemed to be the least exported items in 2015 but it's earning was seem to be same as agricultural products in 2016.
In 2015, the petroleum products were the most exported items with a earning of around 60 billion dollars which subsequently rose to around 65 billion dollars next year with 3% rise in values. The engineered goods, the second largest exported items with earning around 58 billion dollars, significantly rose to 63 billion dollars after a year, leads to 8.5% rise in value.
Surprisingly, gems and jewellery were the only exported item which earnings declined after a year from around 44 billion dollars to 41 billion dollars with a decreased of 5.18% change in value in 2016. Similarly, Agricultural goods seemed to be changed significantly over the years with a slight 0.81% rise in values in 2016. Finally, textiles is the least exported items in 2015 but after a year, it touched the earning level of agricultural goods with around 15.24% rose in values.
