Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features from both the bar chart and the table. An overview is attempted in the second paragraph, highlighting the general stability and changes across categories. Key figures, such as the 15.24% increase in textiles and the decline in gems and jewellery, are correctly cited alongside data from 2015 and 2016. However, some data points contain minor inaccuracies compared to the raw data (e.g., stating agricultural sources were about '30$ billion' rather than 31, or petroleum at '60$ billion' rather than 61). Despite these minor misreadings, the main trends are adequately captured and compared, placing the response firmly at Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement and is divided into logical paragraphs, including an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs detailing specific categories. Cohesive devices are used to link ideas, such as 'Over all', 'However', 'Breaking down the figures', and 'In contrast'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in awkward transitional phrasing like 'While, the export of all other products are increasing' and repetitive sentence openings. Paragraphing is present and appropriate for a task 1 report, earning a solid Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms related to graphical data such as 'proportion', 'category', 'export', and 'decrease'. There are several noticeable lexical and spelling errors, such as 'diffierent', 'Over all' (written as two words), 'amenities' (used incorrectly in place of products or goods), and 'sharply increase' (adverb instead of adjective 'sharp'). While these errors are frequent, they do not impede overall communication, reflecting the descriptors for Band 5.5 to 6.0. Given the successful use of topic-specific vocabulary, a 6.0 is awarded.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, using subordinate clauses such as 'While, the export of all other products are increasing'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the export of all other products are increasing', 'export of agriculture sources remain') and incorrect prepositions or tense usage ('is decreasing in 2016 about 5.18%'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but structural control is inconsistent. These errors occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 5.5 descriptor, rounded to 5.5.
