Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student successfully addresses the main features of both the bar chart and the table by reporting key data points, such as petroleum products starting at 61 billion in 2015 and rising to 63 billion in 2016, and textiles showing the highest percentage change at 15.24%. An overview is attempted in the second paragraph, capturing the highest export category and the category with the most significant growth. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in reporting the data (e.g., stating engineered goods rose to 'around 62 billions' when the chart indicates 62 billion, but missing the precise 2015 baseline of 57 billion in the text). Despite these minor omissions and slight generalisations, all parts of the prompt are covered, earning a solid Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response is arranged into four paragraphs, following a logical structure of introduction, overview, body paragraph for the chart data, and body paragraph for the table data. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader, such as 'To begin with', 'In addition', and 'In terms of percentage'. However, paragraphing and referencing are sometimes mechanical or faulty. For instance, the transition between ideas in the third paragraph feels disjointed ('textiles are least popular in 2015 at around 26 billions. in 2016 it rose sharply 31 billions respectively'). Punctuation and capitalization errors at the start of sentences (e.g., 'it rose', 'in 2016', 'wheres') slightly detract from the flow. Overall, the arrangement is coherent, placing this criterion at Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully using terms related to data reporting such as 'export earnings', 'percentage change', 'growth', and 'downward trend'. However, there are several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, including 'chat' instead of 'chart', 'percentange', 'vcatergory', 'textilies', 'shaprly', and 'littel'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are often marred by these inaccuracies. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, the frequency of lexical slips restricts the score to Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, incorporating subordinate clauses and comparative structures. There are, however, frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, such as missing articles ('compared to other category'), incorrect verb forms ('export earnings... are most popular'), and faulty capitalization ('Overall, its is clear that'). Punctuation is also weak, with lowercase letters following periods (e.g., '2016. textiles', 'billions. in 2016'). Although these errors do not completely impede communication, their frequency prevents the response from achieving a higher band, placing it at Band 5.5.
