Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to cover the main features of both the bar graph and the table, noting categories such as petroleum products, textiles, and gems and jewellery. However, the response contains several inaccuracies and contradictory statements when reporting data. For instance, the writer states that gems and jewellery was 'slightly high in 2015... however, this category was always declined in 2015', and later claims that textiles were higher 'by almost 92 billion', which completely misinterprets the scale of the chart where maximum values are around 60 billion. While an overview is attempted, the confusion with specific figures and trends prevents full task completion. It falls under Band 5 because ideas and data points are limited, imprecise, and occasionally misleading.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into an introduction, an overview paragraph, and two body paragraphs, showing an attempt at paragraphing. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by confusing sentences and poor referencing. Transition phrases like 'Looking into more details' and 'Moreover' are used mechanically rather than to build a coherent argument. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or awkward, such as 'then 2015' instead of 'than 2015', and pronouns lack clear antecedents, making the relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Overall organisation is present, but progression lacks clarity, aligning with Band 5 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a limited range of vocabulary with frequent errors in word choice and collocation. Examples include using 'declined' where a noun or different verb form is needed ('always declined in 2015'), 'experts' instead of 'exports', and confusing 'then' with 'than'. Words related to data reporting are basic and repetitive, such as 'high', 'higher', and 'change'. These noticeable errors and inaccuracies cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a vocabulary range that is minimally adequate for the task, fitting Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The response features a very limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences frequently result in faulty syntax and punctuation errors. Examples of ungrammatical constructions include 'during 1 year gap from 2015 and 2016', 'petroleum products were slightly big export in 2016 about 61billion than 2015 which change by 3% change', and 'it’s changing values was 5.18%'. Frequent errors in verb forms, prepositions, and tense usage cause considerable strain for the reader, which places the writing firmly at Band 4 for grammatical range and accuracy.
