Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response attempts to cover the main features of the charts, identifying export categories such as petroleum products and textiles, and includes some specific percentage changes and values. However, there are significant inaccuracies in data reporting (for instance, misinterpreting billons in dollars as percentages, such as stating petroleum was around 61%). Furthermore, the length requirement of 150 words was not met, as the response contains only 147 words. This under-length issue, combined with the imprecise handling of data and lack of a cohesive overview that fully encapsulates all main trends, results in a partial addressing of the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text is organized into paragraphs, attempting an overall summary followed by body paragraphs detailing specific categories. However, the logical progression is hindered by poor referencing and mechanical cohesive devices. Phrases like 'Firstly', 'Moreever', 'In addition', and 'In contrast' are used clumsily or repetitively, and referencing pronouns such as 'they' frequently lack clear antecedents, making the relationships between ideas confusing. Paragraphing is present but internal structuring within paragraphs fails to build a clear, coherent progression of comparative data.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, with frequent word-choice errors and awkward phrasing such as 'coxt', 'categries', 'significantly surged the percentage', and 'massive developed thr exporting products'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary related to trends (e.g., 'surged', 'declined'), but these are often incorrectly collocated or grammatically misused (e.g., 'were slightly rose'). Spelling and morphological errors ('slightlu', 'Moreever', 'futhermore') are noticeable and occasionally impede communication, placing the response firmly in the lower-intermediate band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying heavily on simple structures and failing to produce error-free complex sentences. There are frequent and severe grammatical errors throughout the response, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'The given charts illustrates', 'the percentage of agricultural products were'), incorrect passive/active voice usage (e.g., 'they were declined the percentage'), and erroneous tense/form combinations. These persistent errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader and distort meaning, reflecting weak control over basic sentence construction.
