Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to address all parts of the task by reporting the main features of the chart and table, mentioning categories such as Petroleum products, Engineered goods, Gems and jewellery, Agricultural products, and Textiles. However, there are some inaccuracies and confusions in handling the data. For instance, in the fourth paragraph, the student misattributes the 15.24% percentage change to Agricultural goods rather than Textiles, and repeats that Engineered goods grew by around 8.15% (which is close to 8.5%). Additionally, the absolute values of the categories in 2015 and 2016 are largely omitted from the body paragraphs, focusing almost entirely on the percentage changes from the table. While a clear overview is attempted, the development of data is somewhat limited and flawed due to these mixed-up statistics, placing it within Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text is organized into four paragraphs, providing a basic introduction, a category listing, and two body paragraphs attempting to analyze the trends. However, the logical progression is hindered by repetitive phrasing and poor transitional links, such as 'Analyzing the chart deeply it shows that' and 'Futhermore'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in the concluding paragraph where pronouns and linkages create confusion regarding which product achieved which growth rate. Paragraphing is present, but overall cohesion is mechanical and sometimes faulty, which aligns with a Band 5 score.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary suitable for describing graphical data, utilizing terms such as 'illustrates', 'incline', 'decline', and 'downward movement'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and spelling errors, such as 'category' instead of 'categories', 'there' instead of 'their', 'has gain' instead of 'have gained', and 'Futhermore' instead of 'Furthermore'. Less common vocabulary attempts are imprecise or awkwardly phrased, causing occasional strain for the reader, which corresponds to a Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response shows a mix of simple and attempted complex sentence forms, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Petroleum products, Engineered goods, Agricultural products and Textile goods has gain', 'Engineered goods and Agricultural products has gained', 'products like Petroleum and agricultural highlights') and pluralization (e.g., 'product value', 'various category'). Punctuation is also problematic, notably missing commas after introductory phrases or clauses. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from reaching Band 6.
