Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to cover the main features of the charts, providing data for various export categories in 2015 and 2016, alongside the percentage changes. However, there are notable inaccuracies and confusions in data reporting. For instance, the student states that gems and jewellery dropped to '61 billion dollar' and gives a percentage change of '-0.81 percent' (while the table shows 5.18% decrease). Furthermore, the overview is rather weak, stating that textiles had the 'largest increased' and 'face less export earnings' (which contradicts the data showing textiles started at 26 billion, lower than others, but rose significantly). These inaccuracies and flawed generalisations place the response at Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is organised into distinct paragraphs, including an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs detailing individual categories. However, the logical progression is hindered by poor referencing and unclear cohesive links. For example, sentences like 'Overall, textile had the largest increased which compared the category and also textiles face less export earnings' are confusingly phrased. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within paragraphs is repetitive and mechanical, using basic transitions like 'The petroleun products...', 'The only product category...', and 'Agricultural products also...'. This corresponds to a Band 5.0 for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms such as 'increased', 'drop', and 'export earnings'. There are multiple vocabulary and spelling errors throughout the text, including 'persents' instead of presents, 'categorises', 'petroleun', 'germs' instead of gems, and awkward collocations like 'largest increased' and 'face drop'. While the writer attempts less common vocabulary, the frequent inaccuracies in word choice and spelling impede communication at times, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but grammatical accuracy is quite low. There are frequent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and sentence boundaries, such as run-on sentences and fragments (e.g., 'it almost 2 billion dollar. The change is 3 percents' and 'The only product category get a drop...'). Missing prepositions and incorrect word forms (e.g., 'startes' instead of started) are common. These persistent errors cause frequent strain for the reader, placing this criterion at Band 5.0.
