Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features of both the bar chart and the table. An overview is attempted ("At the glance earnings by petroleum products are high..."), and key data points are cited, such as petroleum products starting at 61 billion dollars and increasing to 63 billion dollars, and textiles experiencing the largest percentage increase of 15.24%. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in reading the data, such as stating "Gems and jewellery generate income almost 45 billion dollars in 2015" when the chart shows it at approximately 43 billion dollars. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but some supporting data points are slightly imprecise. Overall, the response addresses the prompt adequately, earning a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response is organized with an introductory sentence followed by body sentences detailing each category. However, the paragraphing is quite disjointed, with single-sentence paragraphs used excessively, which affects the overall cohesion. Cohesive devices are minimal or somewhat mechanical (e.g., "In 2015...", "Engineered goods..."). Referencing is generally clear, but the lack of proper paragraph grouping prevents a smoother logical flow. The text is coherent overall, but cohesion is occasionally faulty, fitting the Band 6 descriptor well.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms related to data reporting such as "earnings," "categories," "percentage," "income," and "sector." There are some noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as "earningd" (typographical error), "it raised in 2016 upto 3 percent" (confusing transitive and intransitive forms of raise/rise), and "suddenly it falls down." While less common vocabulary is attempted, errors in word choice and collocation prevent the score from reaching a higher band. The vocabulary is sufficient for the task and communication is not impeded, warranting a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as relative or subordinate clauses (e.g., "The given table provides the information about change in percentage..."). However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ("The given bar graph illustrate"), incorrect verb tenses or forms ("it raised in 2016 upto 3 percent which is almost 63 billions"), and missing prepositions or articles. Punctuation is also sparse in places. These errors occur regularly, though they rarely impede overall communication, placing the grammar firmly at a Band 5.5.
