Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to cover the main features of both the bar graph and the table, noting categories like petroleum products and textiles. However, there are notable inaccuracies and misinterpretations of the data provided in the visual stimulus. For instance, the text states that engineered goods in 2015 decreased sharply and reached around 55 billion, whereas the chart shows 2015 at 57 billion and 2016 at 62 billion (an increase, not a decrease). Additionally, the concluding paragraph misinterprets the percentage change data, stating that gems and jewellery had increased by 5.18% when the table clearly shows a decrease (5.18%). These inaccuracies in data reporting prevent the response from achieving a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is organized into four paragraphs, following a logical layout of an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs detailing specific data. However, overall progression is hindered by confusing transitions and mechanical cohesion. For instance, the phrase 'while, In agriculture products earning in 2015 and 2016 is slightly similar' creates a disjointed sentence structure. Referencing and linking devices are sometimes awkward or inaccurate, such as 'in addition 2016 had similar to petroleum products'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical flow within paragraphs requires improvement.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for a basic description of the charts, including terms like 'proportion', 'category', and 'earnings'. However, there are frequent lexical errors and incorrect word forms, such as 'valueof', 'catagories', 'earning' instead of 'earnings', and 'Textilies'. The student attempts less common vocabulary like 'proportion' and 'categorisation' concepts, but inaccuracies in spelling and word choice ('petrolume', 'gemes') detract from the overall quality and occasionally impede clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There are frequent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'export earning in several catagories... had made up' and 'engineered goods in 2015 decreased sharply and reached around, 55 billion in addition 2016 had similar to petroleum products'. Punctuation is also problematic, with unnecessary commas breaking up sentences ('around, 63 billions'). These persistent errors frequently cause strain for the reader.
