The chart below shows the value of one country’s exports in various categories during 2015 and 2016. The table shows the percentage change in each category of exports in 2016 compared with 2015.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

THe bar chart compares the value of total exports in different categories in a country between 2015 and 2016. While, the table illustrates the the average percentage change in the value of exxports in each category, in the same period.

It can be seen clearly from the bar chart that petroleum products produced nearly 61 billion dollars from exports. However, this figure increased marginally to 63 billion dollars, in 2016. Meanwhile, the earning from exports of engineered goods increased from 57 billion dollars to 61 billion dollars, in the same period. Not only this, textile sector also followed the same trend, as amount of total export surged from somewhat 26 billion dollars to above 30 billion dollars, in the same time duration.

However, the earning from export in gems and jewellery category declined in the same time period, from somewhere 42 billion dollars to almost 40 billion dollars. Surprisingly, there was no change in the earning from export of agricultural products, as it remained constant at about 31 billion dollars in both the years.

Nevertheless, there was a overall increase in value of export of petroleum products, engineered goods, agricultural products and textile of (3%, 8.5%, 0.81% and 15.24%), respectively. By contrast, gems and jewellery witnessed an overall decline of 5.18% in the value of export

all in all, it is evident that overall value of export increased in all sectors, except gems and jewellery.
