Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student addresses all parts of the task by selecting and reporting the main features of both the bar chart and the table, making relevant comparisons. The overview captures the highest and lowest export categories in 2015 as well as general trends. Key figures are correctly identified, such as petroleum products having the highest revenue at 61 billion in 2015 and textiles showing the highest percentage change at 15.24 percent. However, there are some minor inaccuracies or vague expressions in data reporting, such as stating that petroleum and engineering items in 2016 were approximately of the same export value above 60 billion, whereas the chart shows petroleum at 63 billion and engineered goods at 62 billion. Despite minor slips in precision, the response successfully covers the main trends and satisfies the requirements of Task 1.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response is arranged into four paragraphs, following a logical structure with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs detailing the data. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall', 'In addition', 'In 2015', and 'In contrast', which help guide the reader through the information. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes mechanical or faulty, as seen in awkward transitions like 'In opposite, gems and jewellery value decreased drastically' and 'The only goods were of gems and jewellery whose value droped in minus.' Paragraphing is generally appropriate, though paragraph three and four could be better integrated to maintain a smoother flow of comparisons.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting less common items such as 'appraisal', 'revenue', and 'percentage change'. However, there are several word choice and collocation errors throughout the response, including spelling and lexical slips like 'petroleam', 'sell abroad' instead of 'sales abroad', 'droped in minus', and 'highest to record in its value'. Repetition of basic phrasing is also noticeable. While the lexical range allows the student to convey the main points of the chart, these inaccuracies prevent the response from achieving a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are numerous errors in punctuation, preposition use, and sentence structure, such as missing articles and poor clause integration ('In 2015,petroleum products sell abroad were around 60 billion the highest among all', 'In the year 2016 petroleum and engineering items were approximately of same in exports'). Punctuation spacing issues and awkward phrasing frequently occur. While these errors do not completely impede overall communication, they cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and demonstrate limited control over complex grammar.
