Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially. While the student attempts to summarise the visual data by identifying key export categories such as petroleum products and textiles, the content contains factual inaccuracies and misunderstandings of the data. For instance, the student states that there is 'no any drastic change in the exports of Agricultural products' and concludes that 'there is the growth in the exports of every goods except Agricultural products', which contradicts the provided table showing that agricultural products actually experienced a slight increase (0.81%) while gems and jewellery experienced a decline (5.18%). Ideas are limited and under-developed, relying on vague descriptions rather than precise figures or robust comparisons between the two years.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation evident through the use of basic transition markers such as 'Overall', 'From this bar graph', and 'In a nutshell', but the essay lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of information is somewhat repetitive and disjointed. Cohesive devices are often used inaccurately or mechanically, and referencing is not always clear, as seen in phrases like 'which is the most exports products of a country' and 'the nation gain its lowest income'. To reach a higher level, the response needs more logical sequencing and a wider variety of cohesive ties that connect ideas smoothly without mechanical repetition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic ideas about the chart. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices that cause some difficulty, such as 'Export Earninig', 'most exports products', and 'drastically increment'. The student attempts less common vocabulary, but issues with word form (e.g., using 'increment' as a noun improperly or confusing noun/adjective forms) restrict the precision of the writing. To improve, the student should focus on accurate word formation, natural collocations, and precise reporting verbs and nouns associated with describing graphical data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text displays a very limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, agreement, and articles throughout the text, such as 'is bar graph which provides', 'the nation slightly increase', and 'there is no any drastic change'. Punctuation and spacing errors (e.g., missing spaces after commas such as 'Overall,it') also detract from the quality of writing. To progress, the student needs to demonstrate better control over basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and tense consistency when reporting data.
