Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response only partially addresses the task requirements. First, the length requirement of at least 150 words is not met, as the essay cuts off prematurely at 120 words. Furthermore, the selection of main features is limited and contains inaccuracies. For instance, the overview incorrectly states that earnings for petroleum products were lowest in the textiles category instead of acknowledging that textiles started at 26 billion dollars in 2015. The details provided for the individual categories are incomplete and trail off at the end of the second paragraph, meaning the data for gems and jewellery and agricultural products is omitted entirely. To reach a higher band, you must complete the required word count and present a fully developed overview covering all main categories and trends visible in the visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organization with an introductory sentence and an overview, but the overall progression of information is hindered by the incomplete text. While basic cohesive devices like 'While' and 'Overall' are attempted, referencing and flow are disrupted by frequent abrupt shifts and the sudden truncation of the essay. Paragraphing is attempted, but the body paragraph is incomplete and lacks a logical conclusion or full development of the data. To improve cohesion, ensure that every main feature is fully discussed within properly structured paragraphs, using clear connecting phrases to link ideas smoothly from one category to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, but contains noticeable errors in word choice and spelling that affect precision. For example, 'produts' contains a spelling mistake, and phrases like 'worth of exports' and 'percentage change in standards' are somewhat unnatural in this context. While there are attempts to use vocabulary related to the chart, such as 'earning', 'revenue', and 'categories', the limited range and lexical slips restrict the score. To achieve a higher band, incorporate a wider range of precise economic vocabulary and collocation, such as 'export revenue', 'fluctuated', or 'experienced growth', while ensuring all words are spelled accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing shows a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on basic patterns. Attempts at complex sentences often result in faulty grammar, such as the fragment 'While the table presents the comparison of every category of trade in 2016 with 2015.' There are also issues with prepositions and phrasing, such as 'highest and lowest from the textiles'. Frequent grammatical errors, missing verbs, and incomplete clauses are present throughout the short text. To improve your grammar score, focus on writing complete sentences with correct subjects and verbs, avoid sentence fragments, and practice constructing error-free complex sentences that accurately connect data points.
