Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting an overview of the charts, identifying key features, and making relevant comparisons. For example, the student correctly highlights that petroleum products generated the greatest revenue while textiles contributed the least. However, some ideas are under-developed or contain minor inaccuracies; for instance, the mention of '2026' instead of 2016 is a slight slip, and certain data points (such as the 2015 figures for petroleum and engineered goods) are generalised rather than precisely reported. The overview captures the main trends well, noting the overall upward movement alongside the exception of gems and jewellery, which satisfies the requirements for this level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear division into logical paragraphs, including an introduction, an overview, body paragraphs detailing the categories across the years, and a final paragraph integrating the percentage changes from the table. Information and ideas are generally sequenced with a logical progression. However, cohesion is at times slightly mechanical or repetitive in structure (such as starting multiple sentences with 'In [year]' or describing individual product contributions sequentially). Referencing is mostly clear, though transitional phrases between sentences could be used more flexibly to enhance the flow of the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully attempting less common items and terminology related to economic data, such as 'primary category', 'revenue', and 'upward trend'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors that reflect the limitations of this band, including 'Petroulem' and 'Enginnered good' in the introduction, 'categroy', 'county' for country, and 'delines'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they prevent the writer from achieving a higher score due to recurring inaccuracies in spelling and slight awkwardness in word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at comparative structures and subordinate clauses, such as 'except gems and jewellery group that declined slightly.' There are some grammatical errors in tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and articles—for instance, 'all product categories experiences' (plural/verb agreement), 'petroleum products remains' (present tense instead of past for a completed time period), and missing articles before singular nouns. Nonetheless, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the intended meaning without significant difficulty.
