Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the main parts of the task by reporting data from both the chart and the table, but some areas are under-developed or inaccurately described. For instance, the writer states that in 2016 engineered goods were exported in range by '$61 billion' and in 2015 had a 'slight decrease to $3 billion', which misreads the visual data where engineered goods rose from $57 billion in 2015 to $62 billion in 2016. Furthermore, several data points are confused, such as the statement that textiles increased to '$5 billion' in 2016 rather than reaching a total value of $31.5 billion. While an overview is attempted, these inaccuracies and limited extensions of data prevent a higher score, positioning the response firmly at this level where tasks are only partially addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the answer into logical paragraphs, separating the introduction, overview, chart details, and table data. Cohesive devices such as 'In general', 'Looking at the cgart in more detail', and 'Moving to the table' are used to guide the reader through the different sections. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and referencing is occasionally faulty, such as confusing pronoun or data links between sentences. Paragraphing is present and used sufficiently to separate distinct parts of the visual information, helping achieve a moderately organised text that remains fairly easy to follow despite minor structural flaws.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task, featuring basic terms related to economic data and categories. There are several noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word forms, such as 'experts' instead of 'exports', 'cgart' instead of 'chart', and 'engeenered' instead of 'engineered'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'percentage change' and 'gradually decreased', but inaccuracies in collocation and spelling cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from achieving a higher lexical band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple and repetitive patterns. Attempts at complex sentences or passive constructions are often faulty, such as 'Petroleum products exported in highest numbers' (missing passive verb forms) and 'Textiles were exported $26 billion' (missing prepositions). Frequent errors in verb forms, prepositions, and article usage occur throughout the text, such as 'Agriculture productd were same in both years to $31 billion'. These errors can cause occasional difficulty for the reader, though the overall meaning remains mostly decipherable.
