Student answer (Band 6.5)

The information pertaining to the amount of export earning in five different categories in one specific nation, along with providing the proportion change in each value from 2015 to 2016, has been depicted by the provided combination of pillar and tabular representations.

After analyzing, petroleum and engineered goods generated the highest amount of revenue, recorded $ 60 billion and $ 55 billion in 2015; however, these figures rose slightly to 62 billion for each one in 2016. The value of gems and jewelry exports stood at around 43 billion dollars in 2015 as against 40 billion dollars in 2016. With regard to the least share of agriculture and textile products accounted for $30 and $25 billion in 2015, and around $32 for both in 2016,respectively.

Turning to the table chart, all categories experienced an increase, except for gems and jewellery, which experienced a 7% decline. Textile witnessed the significant proportion of growth at 15.24%, followed by engineered goods with 8.5%. Petroleum and agriculture products experienced a modest increase of just 3 percent and 0.81 percent.

Looking from an overall perspective , it is crystal clear that petroleum and engineered goods generated the highest amount of money in the given time period, while hems and jewelry experienced a minimal decline in provided time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by providing an overview of the export earnings across the five categories in 2015 and 2016, along with the percentage changes. Key features are selected and reported, and relevant comparisons are made, such as highlighting petroleum and engineered goods as the highest earners. However, the response sits at this level because some details are slightly inaccurate when compared to the visual data, such as misreporting the 2015 figures for petroleum and engineered goods as 60 and 55 billion instead of 61 and 57 billion, and stating that gems and jewellery experienced a 7% decline instead of the actual 5.18%. Furthermore, the overview is placed at the very end rather than being well integrated, and some ideas lack the full extension seen in higher bands.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the information logically. The writing is divided into an introduction, body paragraphs covering the main categories and table data, and an overall summary at the end. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader through the data, such as 'Turning to the table chart' and 'Looking from an overall perspective'. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally mechanical or slightly faulty, as seen in the phrasing 'With regard to the least share of agriculture and textile products accounted for', which creates a disjointed sentence structure. Paragraphing is present, but the positioning of the summary at the very end shows a progression that is somewhat basic rather than fully sophisticated, meeting the requirements of the lower band while showing glimpses of better organisation.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'pertaining', 'proportion change', and 'modest increase'. While communication is successfully maintained throughout, there are several lexical and word choice inaccuracies, such as 'proportion change' instead of 'percentage change', 'hems and jewelry' instead of 'gems and jewellery', and 'Textile witnessed the significant proportion of growth' where the plural form or article is missing. These minor slips in word choice and occasional spelling errors prevent the response from achieving a higher band, though the vocabulary remains sufficient to convey the main trends in the charts clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like 'while gems and jewellery experienced a minimal decline in provided time'. There is a reasonable control over basic sentence construction, but some grammatical errors and awkward phrasing persist, such as 'the amount of export earning' (singular/plural noun error), 'stood at around 43 billion dollars in 2015 as against 40 billion dollars' (prepositional usage), and the incomplete comparative clause 'With regard to the least share of agriculture and textile products accounted for... and around $32 for both in 2016, respectively'. These errors occur regularly throughout the text, but they rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the intended meaning without confusion.
