Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by selecting and reporting the main features from both the bar chart and the table. An overview is provided, noting that petroleum and engineered goods had the highest figures while textiles and agricultural products represented lower portions. Key data points for both years and the percentage changes are cited, such as petroleum products starting at approximately $61 billion in 2015 and growing to $63 billion with a 3% change. However, some ideas and figures are slightly imprecise or under-developed, such as stating petroleum grew to '$62 billion' instead of '$63 billion' and reading engineered goods as '$56 billion' rather than '$57 billion'. Furthermore, the description tends to list figures sequentially rather than fully integrating deep analytical comparisons, reflecting the characteristics of this performance level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of information, divided into an introduction, an overview paragraph, and two body paragraphs covering specific product categories. The student employs a range of cohesive devices to link ideas, such as 'Overall', 'Meanwhile', and 'In the subsequent manner'. However, cohesion is at times slightly mechanical or awkward, as seen with phrases like 'In the subsequent manner' and 'Simultiniously'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different categories and visual components, and referencing is generally clear throughout the text, allowing the reader to follow the flow of data effortlessly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully attempting less common lexical items related to data reporting such as 'proportion change', 'substantially escalated', and 'marginally'. However, there are noticeable word choice, spelling, and word form errors that prevent the response from achieving a higher band. Examples include spelling errors like 'taxtiles' and 'Simultiniously', and awkward collocations or word forms such as 'enginerred goods', 'proportion change' instead of 'percentage change', and 'export ratio' instead of 'export value'. These inaccuracies do not impede communication, but they highlight the limitations in lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at relative clauses and comparative structures, such as sentences containing 'which later in 2016 increased considerably'. There are, however, several grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense and verb form issues ('was experience', 'export of the petroleum products was... grow up', 'the export ratio of agricultural products were'), incorrect prepositions or articles, and punctuation slips. While these errors occur regularly, they rarely impede communication, and the writer maintains a mix of sentence structures that keeps the meaning clear despite the lapses in accuracy.
