Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task partially, attempting to present an overview and select key features from the visual data, such as identifying petroleum products and engineered goods as the largest sectors and noting textiles as having the most significant growth. However, the response falls short of the 150-word minimum, containing only 140 words, which restricts the depth of the overview and reporting. Furthermore, some data points are inaccurate or poorly integrated, such as stating that agricultural products remained the same while simultaneously claiming there was a small decline. To reach a higher level, you should ensure the word count requirement is met, avoid contradictory data reporting, and extend your selection of features to provide a fully supported and accurate summary of the provided charts.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates some organisation with a clear paragraph structure separating the introduction, the overall trend, and the body details. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the information feels disjointed in places. Cohesive devices are minimal or inaccurate, leading to mechanical linking and poor referencing. For example, sentences in the third paragraph are strung together without proper transitions or punctuation, making it difficult to follow the logical flow of data comparisons. To improve coherence and cohesion, you should use a wider variety of appropriate cohesive links, ensure smooth transitions between sentences and paragraphs, and maintain a logical, clear progression throughout the report.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The lexical resource is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic information about export earnings. You attempted some less common vocabulary and reported percentages, but there are noticeable errors in word choice, form, and spelling, such as writing 'percantage', 'lit bit', and 'decline' where an adjective or adverbial phrase was needed. These lexical slips occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, you need to expand your vocabulary range with more precise economic and descriptive terms, use word forms accurately, and check your spelling carefully to ensure smooth and clear communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response uses a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple clauses and run-on sentences. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, characterised by missing verbs, incorrect prepositions, and poor punctuation. For instance, writing 'Petroleum products increased 3% 60 billion$' lacks necessary prepositions and verb control. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that cause strain and difficulty for the reader. To improve your grammar, you should work on forming complete, grammatically sound sentences, control your use of verb tenses and prepositions, and pay closer attention to punctuation boundaries to avoid run-on structures.
