Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main export categories across the two years and including the percentage changes, fitting the criteria for an adequate overview and selection of features. However, some ideas are under-developed or inaccurately reported. For example, the student writes that petroleum products reached '64 billions' when the data shows 63 billions, and confuses the figures and percentages for agriculture and textiles, stating that both reached '32%'. While an overview is attempted in the second paragraph, the lack of precision in reporting specific figures prevents a higher level of achievement. The selection of data is relevant, but closer attention to the exact values in the chart and table is needed to fully support the points made.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the answer into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs detailing the data. Progression is generally evident as the writer moves from general trends to specific figures. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty and mechanical. Expressions like 'followed by engineering goods jumped from around 53.5 to 62 billions with growth of 8.5%' create run-on structures and unclear referencing, making the relationships between ideas less smooth than expected for a higher band. Paragraphing is used to group ideas, but the internal logical flow within sentences occasionally breaks down due to awkward transitional phrases and punctuation issues.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

An adequate range of vocabulary is deployed for the task, allowing the student to successfully discuss economic categories and trends. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary such as 'dominated', 'descending growth', and 'enhanced rapidly', though these are sometimes accompanied by inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'declined growth' instead of 'a decline' or 'descending growth'. Spelling and word formation are generally clear enough not to impede communication, with terms like 'petroleum', 'agriculture', and 'textile' spelled correctly, though minor slips like 'char' instead of 'chart' occur at the very beginning of the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and participial phrases, such as 'while between 2015 to 2016 the agriculture products saw...'. However, control over grammar is inconsistent, featuring frequent errors in prepositions, verb forms, and sentence boundaries. Examples include 'This char below illustrates,' with an intrusive comma, and run-on structures where multiple clauses are joined incorrectly without proper coordination. Punctuation errors are also noticeable throughout the text. While these errors rarely impede overall communication entirely, they occur with enough frequency to restrict the score to this level, as error-free sentences are not sustained consistently.
