Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response makes an attempt to address the prompt by reporting some data from the bar chart and the table, but the information presented is frequently inaccurate, confused, or minimal. For instance, the opening sentence contains contradictory or unclear details about the years and categories, stating 'between 2015 and 2015' and misinterpreting the table content. Throughout the body paragraphs, data points are misread or poorly linked; the student writes that 'petroleum products has extension of 60 billion dollars in 2015 and 63 in 2015' (repeating the year), and confuses absolute monetary earnings with percentage changes, such as stating 'the gems and jewellery has 40 billion of outcome in 2016 and in 2015 it slightly go up around 2 percent' when the table actually shows a decrease of 5.18%. Ideas are limited and under-developed, and the lack of a clear, accurate overview means the response only responds to the task in a partial and confused manner.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The text is organized into paragraphs, including an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs, which gives it a basic structure. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression and logical development. Transitions between sentences and ideas often feel mechanical or confusing, such as using 'To begin with,' and 'Moving toward to the rest of the information,' which do not logically sequence the comparison of the two visual aids. Furthermore, referencing is weak and confusing, making it difficult for the reader to follow which data point corresponds to which category or year. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and poor signposting.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, reflecting a basic range that struggles to adequately convey precise statistical information. The student relies on simple terms and makes frequent errors in word choice, collocation, and word formation. Examples include 'transport make', 'outlook swap', 'groups of exports', and 'outcome' instead of earnings or value. There are also issues with precision when discussing data, leading to imprecise descriptions like 'extension of 60 billion dollars' and 'second least in exporters'. While some topic-specific terms like 'petroleum products', 'agricultural products', and 'percentage' are present, the overall lexical control is weak and strains comprehension at times.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple and error-prone complex attempts. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense inconsistencies ('between 2015 and 2015', 'it slightly go up'), subject-verb agreement issues ('the petroleum products has', 'the textiles is a higher percentage'), and missing or incorrect prepositions. Punctuation is also problematic, with run-on sentences and poor capitalization. These frequent errors cause significant difficulty for the reader and impede smooth communication, reflecting an early stage of structural control.
