Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially and fails to meet the minimum word length requirement of 150 words, coming in at just 109 words. While the writer attempts to provide an overview and report some features from the chart and table, the selection of data is confused and inaccurate. For instance, the student states that petroleum products were at 60% in 2015, misinterpreting billions as percentages, and misreads several figures and trends. Furthermore, the information is restricted and lacks sufficient development to fully cover all parts of the visual data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some basic organisation attempted, including a rudimentary division into paragraphs, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are generally inadequate, inaccurate, or overused, such as the awkward transitional phrase "Than the table demonstrate" and repetitive structural patterns. Referencing and linking between ideas are frequently faulty, making the text disjointed and difficult to follow smoothly from one point to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling throughout the response, such as "catagories", "catagory", "inceasred", "graguatly", "dropout", and "textail". These lexical errors and awkward collocations cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a weak control of lexical features appropriate for academic writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writer demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences, and attempts at more complex structures are frequently faulty. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as in "The bar chart illustrate", "during in 2015 to 2016", and "steadily grow... than compares it". These persistent grammatical errors can cause considerable difficulty and confusion for the reader.
