Student answer (Band 5.0)
The chart illustrates the one country exports in different categories during 2015 and 2016. The bar chart gives the proportion change in each category of exports in 2016 compared with 2015.
Overall, the petroleum products accounted the largest proportion in 2015 and 2016, at the same time, the textiles represented the smallest perecentage in 2015 and 2016.
In this graph, the country exported the petroleum products in 2015 and 2016 and their percentage was 60% and 62%. In contrast, the engineered goods were exported upto 55% and 61% in both years which decreased gradually. Futhermore, the gems and jewellery sold abroad and they fell significantly and percentage were 41% and 43%.
On the other hand, agricultural products exported in other countries dropped upto 30% and 31%. Moreover, the textiles foreign sales dropped upto 25% and 31% which fell respectively than others products because textiles had smallest value and it was 15.24%.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the main categories and attempt an overview, noting petroleum as the largest and textiles as the smallest in 2015. However, the overview is inaccurate for 2016: textiles rose to about the same level as agricultural products, rather than remaining the smallest. Several comparisons are also reversed or misreported: engineered goods increased from about $57 billion to $62 billion, while gems and jewellery fell from about $43 billion to $41 billion; your figures and descriptions do not consistently reflect this. The table gives percentage changes, not proportions, and the response does not clearly summarise the key overall pattern. It is also 10 words below the 150-word minimum. Include a precise overview and report the main rises and fall using the chart’s units.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure, with an introduction, an overview and two paragraphs of details. Linking expressions such as “In contrast,” “Furthermore” and “On the other hand” show an attempt to connect information. However, progression is not always clear: the first detail paragraph moves between categories without a consistent comparison, and some links do not match the data—for example, “which decreased gradually” follows the increase in engineered goods. The final sentence also combines the textiles figure with its percentage change in a confusing way. Group the categories by trend (increases versus the decline), and use linking words only where the relationship is accurate. Clearer references to the years and values would help the reader follow the comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “exports,” “categories,” “accounted” and “fell,” and the meaning is generally recoverable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “proportion change” for percentage change and “exported upto 55%,” which makes the figures sound like percentages rather than dollar values. “Textiles foreign sales” is also an awkward phrase, while spelling errors such as “perecentage” and “Futhermore” reduce accuracy. Aim for precise chart language: describe export earnings in billions of dollars and use verbs such as “rose,” “declined” or “remained stable.” Check spelling and avoid repeating “exported” when a more natural expression is available.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the response is mostly understandable, but the range is limited and errors occur frequently. Examples include the missing possessive in “the one country exports,” the missing preposition in “accounted the largest proportion,” and the faulty construction “the engineered goods were exported upto 55% and 61%.” Agreement and sentence structure are also problematic in “the gems and jewellery sold abroad and they fell significantly and percentage were 41% and 43%.” These errors sometimes make the intended comparison difficult to interpret. Practise forming accurate comparative sentences, for example, “Earnings from engineered goods rose from about $57 billion to $62 billion.” Use complete clauses and check articles, prepositions and verb agreement.
