Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s subject and mention several relevant categories and changes, including the rise in engineered goods and the fall in gems and jewellery. However, the overview is unclear and contains a key misreading: textiles had the largest percentage increase, not the “lowest increase,” while petroleum products had the highest export value. Some figures and comparisons are also inaccurate or confusing: petroleum rose from about 61 to 63 billion, not 60 to 61, and engineered goods reached about 62 billion in 2016, rather than 60. The agricultural figures are broadly close, but the table’s 0.81% rise is not clearly reported. Select the main trends accurately and summarise them in a clear overview before supporting it with figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response has paragraph breaks and attempts to group an overview, category details and percentage changes, so there is some basic organisation. However, the progression is difficult to follow because information is repeated or presented in an unclear order. For example, the overview says textiles had the “lowest increase,” then later calls them “the lowest of the period,” without clarifying that their value rose substantially. Linking words such as “while,” “however” and “although” are frequent but often do not show the intended relationship. Organise the report into a clear overview followed by comparisons of the main values and changes, and use fewer, more precise connectors.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some task-related vocabulary, including “export earnings,” “percentage rise,” “increase” and “decrease,” and the category names help identify the data being discussed. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning difficult to understand, such as “the height number of show,” “31 proportion” and “it was the lowest of the period.” There are also noticeable spelling errors in key terms, including “engineeres,” “textilies” and “jewellery” rendered as “jawellery.” Use standard chart language such as “highest value,” “stood at,” “rose to” and “recorded the largest increase,” and check spelling of the category labels.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including comparisons linked with “while” and “although.” However, many sentences contain errors in basic structure, agreement, articles and tense, which often make the relationships between figures unclear. For instance, “the petroleum products is the height number of show” has faulty agreement and sentence construction, while “In, agricultural product is 2015 in 31 proportion” does not form a clear grammatical clause. The sentence about gems also shifts awkwardly between past and present forms. Build each comparison around a clear subject and verb—for example, “Agricultural exports stood at about $31 billion in 2015 and $31.5 billion in 2016”—and use full stops to separate ideas.
