Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response identifies the general subject and names all five export categories, so it shows some awareness of what the visuals present. However, it does not summarise the main features: there is no comparison of the figures, no account of which categories rose or fell, and no meaningful overview of the key pattern. For example, petroleum products remained the largest export, while textiles had the strongest increase and gems and jewellery declined; none of these points is reported. The overview merely repeats that exports are compared across 2015 and 2016. The response is also substantially below the required 150 words, leaving the task only minimally addressed. To improve, report the main trends and support them with selected figures from both the chart and table.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: it begins by introducing the visuals and then uses “As an overview” to signal a second point. The categories are also listed in a recognisable sequence. However, the ideas do not progress into a clear summary, and the second paragraph largely repeats the first rather than adding comparisons or key findings. The opening contains sentence fragments, including “In exporting products like…” and “Table also compares…”, which make the relationships between ideas unclear. Cohesive links are very limited, and the repeated reference to the comparison does not develop the information. Use a clear introduction, a concise overview of the main trends, and a paragraph comparing the most important figures.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses relevant topic vocabulary, including “export earnings,” “categories,” “petroleum products,” and “gems and jewellery,” and the reader can identify the subject of the visuals. However, the range is narrow and repetitive: “exports,” “categories,” and “compared” recur without more precise language for describing change or ranking. Some expressions are awkward or inaccurate, such as “the value of export” and “in the duration of 2015to2016.” Spelling and presentation also need attention, including “hte” and the joined date. To make the summary more effective, use a wider set of accurate terms such as “export value,” “rose,” “declined,” “remained stable,” and “accounted for the highest figure,” while checking spelling and spacing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts simple statements and an overview phrase, but sentence structures are very limited, and several sentences are incomplete or poorly formed. “In exporting products like petroleum products…” is a fragment rather than a complete sentence, while “Table also compares the categories…” lacks a determiner before “Table.” The opening sentence also has an unclear structure, and the repeated date phrase is not integrated correctly into the sentence. These errors make the writing less fluent, although the general topic remains understandable. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use straightforward comparison structures, for example, “Petroleum exports rose from about $61 billion to $63 billion.” Check articles, sentence boundaries, and punctuation when editing.
