Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

You identify the broad pattern that petroleum products earned the most in both years, and you include a concluding comparison. However, several figures and trends are substantially misreported: the chart shows 2015 values of about $61 billion for petroleum and $57 billion for engineered goods, not 60 and 50.5, while textiles rose from about $26 billion to $31.5 billion rather than being the lowest in both years. Gems and jewellery fell, but agricultural products and textiles increased. The opening also calls the visual a table and gives no clear overview of the main changes. The response is below the required 150 words; 22 words copied from the prompt were not counted. Select the key comparisons and report them accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic structure: an introduction, separate discussion of the two years, and a concluding sentence. This gives the reader some sense of organisation, and the contrast between the years is relevant. However, progression is limited because the figures are listed without a clear overview or a consistent comparison of categories. The opening sentence repeats task wording, and the conclusion largely repeats the claim about the highest and lowest earners rather than summarising the main changes. Linking is also sparse, with “while” doing much of the work. Group the information by notable trends—for example, categories that rose versus the one that fell—and use clear comparisons to guide the reader.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing data, including “highest earning,” “dropped,” “recorded,” and “percentage change,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or awkward for an academic chart summary. “Soar higher” suggests a dramatic rise, although petroleum earnings changed only slightly, while “slightly deep” does not express the intended comparison. Repeated use of “earning” and “recorded” also makes the description less precise. There are spelling errors in “jewelery,” “tectiles,” and “jewelry” (the category is “gems and jewellery”). Aim for neutral, precise terms such as “stood at,” “increased,” and “declined.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the reader can usually identify the categories being discussed. However, control is inconsistent. The opening has a subject–verb agreement error in “The table below illustrate,” and the phrase “one country's in various categories” is missing a noun. Several sentences run together without full stops, as in the 2016 comparison, and the comma before “while” does not resolve the sentence boundary. Articles and sentence structure are also unreliable in phrases such as “recorded the highest earning.” Use complete, clearly punctuated sentences, check singular/plural agreement, and practise accurate comparative structures such as “Engineered goods stood at…, slightly below petroleum products.”
