Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the broad pattern that petroleum and engineered goods were the highest-value exports, and you note textiles’ strong rise and agriculture’s small change. However, the report only partially covers the data: it gives few figures and omits the decline in gems and jewellery, which fell from about $43 billion to $41 billion. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: engineered goods reached about $62 billion, not $61 billion, and the claim that this was “lower than about 3 percent” does not match the table’s 8.5% increase. The overview also calls the chart a pie chart, although it is a bar chart. The response is 11 words below the required minimum. Include a fuller comparison of all five categories and a clear overview of rises and falls.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure, moving from an introduction to an overview and then to selected details. This gives the reader some sense of organisation, and phrases such as “Overall” and “the major changes” signal shifts in focus. However, progression is limited: the final paragraph groups several categories together without explaining their values or relationships, and it ends with the incomplete statement “remained between 0.” Connections between ideas are sometimes unclear, particularly in the sentence about engineered goods and the percentage change. Use separate, logically ordered paragraphs for the overview and key comparisons, and connect each figure directly to its category and trend.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “export,” “categories,” “percentage,” and “marginally,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “the single country export” and “the most popular product” are not precise descriptions of export values, while “slightly rose upwards” is redundant. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “tabel,” “comapred,” and “prodcuts.” Choose vocabulary that describes value and change precisely, and proofread spelling and word forms. Avoid repeating general terms such as “trend” when a specific rise, fall, or stability can be named.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “While” and an overview beginning “Overall.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement, and punctuation frequently affect clarity. For example, “the Petroleum, Engineered were remains” combines incompatible verb forms, and “their export was recorded steadily went” has a faulty structure. The opening sentence also joins two clauses with a comma and begins “While” without completing a clear main clause. Capitalisation and spacing after full stops are inconsistent. Practise building accurate subject–verb sentences first, then add subordinate clauses, and check each sentence for a complete structure and appropriate punctuation.
