Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover both the chart and the table and identify several important patterns, especially textiles’ strong rise and the decline in gems and jewellery. Most figures are broadly consistent with the visual, although some are imprecise: for example, engineered goods were about $57 billion in 2015 and $62 billion in 2016, rather than being described as only slightly below petroleum in 2015 and at $60 billion in 2016. The overview also incorrectly calls engineered goods the highest earner; petroleum was highest in both years. Your account of the main trends is relevant, but the overview and comparisons need greater accuracy and clearer prioritisation, and some figures are reported without enough precision.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction and overview are followed by a paragraph on the chart and one on the table. This makes the information generally easy to follow, and transitions such as “In the chart” and “In the table” help signal the shift in focus. However, some links are mechanical or unclear. The opening overview lists all five categories without explaining their relative ranking, and “While in 2016” and “Whereas” create awkward connections between sentences. The phrase “respectively” is also unclear because the two earnings figures are not explicitly matched to the categories. To strengthen progression, group the main comparisons more deliberately and use linking phrases that show contrast or change precisely.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt relevant task vocabulary, including “export earnings,” “percentage,” “decreased,” and “climbed,” and the reader can usually understand the intended comparisons. However, a limited range of expressions is combined with frequent spelling and word-choice problems, such as “illusrates,” “items been exported,” “porportion,” and “dramatically rise.” Several collocations are unnatural, including “highest earning was done by” and “increased proportion.” Use standard chart-reporting phrases such as “generated the highest revenue,” “rose sharply,” and “accounted for the smallest figure.” Check spelling carefully and choose precise nouns such as “revenue” or “export value” rather than repeatedly using “earning.” These changes would make the description clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You use a mixture of simple statements and attempted complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “while” and “whereas.” However, errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms are frequent enough to make some relationships difficult to follow. For example, “The bar chart and the table illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, while “petroleum products export earned in 2015 at” lacks a clear grammatical structure. In “the petroleum and engineered had highest earning,” articles and sentence structure are also missing. Some sentences are fragments or begin with subordinating words without a complete main clause. Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then add subordinate clauses, and check agreement, articles, plurals, and punctuation.
