Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the five export categories and report some relevant figures and percentage changes, including the rise in petroleum and engineered goods and the fall in gems and jewellery. However, the response only partially summarises the visual: it gives no clear overview of the main pattern, omits the 2016 figure for gems and jewellery, and does not report the values or percentage changes for agricultural products and textiles. The statement that “rest all other has been increased” is too general to replace those details, and “spent” misrepresents export earnings, which are values earned rather than money spent. To strengthen the response, select the key highs and lows, compare both years accurately, and include a concise overview of the overall trends.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the chart, lists categories, then discusses some figures and the table. This gives the reader a rough sense of the topic, but the progression is not consistently clear. The phrase “The last two categories” introduces agricultural products and textiles, yet their data are not then described, and the final sentence shifts abruptly to percentage changes. Linking is also repetitive, particularly “The second category” and “The third category,” while punctuation around transitions is inconsistent. Organise the response into a short overview followed by grouped comparisons, and use clear references such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile” to show how the categories relate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is sufficient to identify the chart’s subject and categories, using terms such as “petroleum products,” “engineered goods,” and “percentage change.” However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or awkward for describing exports. For example, “60 billion dollars are spent” suggests expenditure rather than export value, and “one exports” is unclear. Repeated use of “category” and “increased” also makes the description less precise. Use task-appropriate collocations such as “export earnings,” “stood at,” “rose to,” and “declined,” and distinguish clearly between a value in dollars and a percentage change.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, but control is uneven, and errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and punctuation sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For instance, “The data is of two years” is an awkwardly formed sentence, while “the petroleum products are increased” uses an incorrect passive construction. In “rest all other has been increased,” the subject and verb do not agree, and the sentence lacks clear punctuation. Some clauses also run together, as in the sentence beginning “The third category is gems and jewellery.” Practise accurate past-tense comparisons and build shorter, complete sentences before combining ideas with conjunctions.
