Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The bar graph compares the export value of nation's goods of various categories during the year 2015 and 2016, whereas the table provides information on the percentage wise increase or decrease in 2016 compared to the previous year.

Overall, the export items are divided in five categories and every category had a minimal increase in export value except gems and jewellery. The aricultural exports remained the same as the previous year. Meanwhile, textiles had the largest positive percentage change comapred to others.

The petroleum products had the largest earning in 2015 and further had a minimal increase of slightly above 60 billions in 2016. Similarly the values of engineered goods witnessed a growth from below 60 billions to slightly above 60 billions in 2016, although it reamined below than petroleum products. Textiles from below 20 billions in 2015 hiked to slightly above 30 billions. Gems and jewellary was the only category which fell in 2016 from above 40 billions to appromately at 40 billion in 2015.

Furthermore, regarding the percentage change in export values. Agriculture showed the negative change of 5.18 percent. Petroleum, engineered goods and agricultural products underwent minimal positive percentage change of 3%, 8.5% and 0.81%. Although textiles did not had large export value, it had the major percentage change of 15.24%.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main pattern that most categories rose while gems and jewellery declined, and correctly note textiles’ strongest percentage growth and petroleum’s highest earnings. However, some key details are inaccurate or unclear: agricultural exports did not remain unchanged, rising slightly from about $31 billion to $31.5 billion, and the 5.18% fall belongs to gems and jewellery, not agriculture. The description of textiles starting below $20 billion is also incorrect; the chart shows about $26 billion in 2015. Your overview is relevant, but these misreadings and the limited comparison of the categories mean some features are reported less fully than others. Check each figure against both the chart and table before summarising.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing the figures and percentage changes. This makes the main points easy to locate. There is also some effective linking, such as “Overall,” “Similarly,” and “Meanwhile.” However, the final paragraph begins “Furthermore, regarding…” and repeats information already covered, while the transition from the chart figures to the table is not especially smooth. Some references are also unclear: “the previous year” and “the major percentage change” could be tied more explicitly to the relevant category. Grouping the main increases together and then contrasting the decline would create a more consistent progression and reduce repetition.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “export value,” “percentage change,” “witnessed a growth,” and “largest earning.” These choices generally communicate the intended comparisons. However, several word-choice and collocation problems reduce precision: “percentage wise increase or decrease” is awkward, “hiked” is too informal for an academic report, and “minimal” does not accurately describe the substantial rise in textiles. Spelling errors such as “aricultural,” “comapred,” “reamined,” “jewellary,” and “appromately” are noticeable. Aim for standard chart-reporting phrases such as “rose from,” “recorded the largest increase,” and “export earnings,” and proofread carefully to improve accuracy and control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause in “although it remained below…” and a comparison introduced by “whereas.” Most sentences remain understandable, so grammatical errors rarely prevent the reader from following the report. Some errors nevertheless affect accuracy and naturalness. For example, “the values of engineered goods witnessed a growth” has an awkward grammatical construction, and “textiles did not had” uses the wrong verb form after “did.” In “Gems and jewellary was the only category,” the plural category name calls for “were,” while “from above 40 billions to approximately at 40 billion in 2015” has an unclear comparison and tense. Review agreement, verb forms after auxiliaries, and sentence construction.
