Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main categories and include an overview that petroleum products earned the most and textiles grew strongly. However, the overview is partly inaccurate: gems and jewellery did not decline the most in percentage terms; textiles had the largest increase, while gems and jewellery was the only category to fall. Several comparisons are also unclear or incorrect. For example, engineered goods rose from about $57 billion to $62 billion, not “461 billions,” and the statement that gems and agriculture were similar between $30 billion and $45 billion does not report their distinct trends. To improve, summarise the overall pattern accurately, then select key figures for each category and compare them clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two detail paragraphs. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “To begin with,” and “In addition” help signal stages in the report. However, progression is uneven: the first detail paragraph combines several categories without clearly explaining their changes, and the final paragraph repeats the textile increase rather than completing the comparison of all categories. Some references, such as “both year,” are unclear, while “While” begins a fragment. Organise the details into clearer comparisons—for example, rising categories together and the decline separately—and use linking words only where they accurately show the relationship between ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “exports,” “categories,” “percentage change,” and “accounted,” and you attempt to describe trends with “rose” and “increased.” However, the range and control are limited, with several inaccurate or awkward choices that make parts difficult to interpret. “Deduce” is not appropriate for describing a decrease, and “with compare to” is an incorrect comparison phrase. There are also spelling errors such as “expoorts” and “billiions,” alongside inconsistent capitalisation of category names. Choose precise reporting verbs and standard collocations, and check spelling carefully; this will make the data description clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “in contrast” and a clause beginning “while.” However, errors are frequent and sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. For example, “the country exports the most” shifts to the present tense, while the chart reports past years; “earning … were noted” has faulty agreement and construction; and “the year 2015 and 2016” is not formed correctly. The sentence beginning “While Gems and Jewellery…” is incomplete, and “value of Textile was increased” uses an incorrect passive form. Practise accurate past-tense reporting, subject–verb agreement, articles, and complete sentence structures before adding more complex clauses.
