Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The bar chart illustrates the value of a country's export between two years 2015 and 2016. This includes different categories: petroleum products, engineered goods, gems and jewellery, agricultural products and textiles.

Overall, the chart shows the export earning in two years( 2015 and 2016). The chart have the earned amount( $ billions) on its y-axis and product category on x-axis. In addition, there is table that gives information about percentage change in the value in the same years.

To begin with, petroleum products had the highest export from this country in both years as it had earned $60.2 billions in 2015 which increased to $62 billions in 2016. Afterwards, engineered goods export revenue increase of 5.26%, rising from $57 billion in 2015 to $60 billion in 2016. Moreover, gems and jewellery shipments declined to $40 billions in 2016 from $43 billions in 2015. Furthermore, agricultural products revenue was almost same( $30.2 billions) in both years. Finally, textiles export was $26 billions in 2015 and $31 billions in 2016.

In percentage terms, textiles had the highest growth in 2016, alomost 15.24%. Petroleum products proportion increased to 3% in 2016 from the previous year. Furthermore, engineering goods increased 8.5%, gems and jewellery decreased to 5.18% and agricultural products increased 0.81% in the next year.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the chart’s subject and report several important features, including petroleum as the highest-earning category, the decline in gems and jewellery, and textiles as the fastest-growing category. However, some figures and comparisons are inaccurate: engineered goods rose from about $57 billion to $62 billion, not $60 billion, and the table gives an increase of 8.5%, not 5.26%. Agricultural exports also rose slightly, from about $31 billion to $31.5 billion, rather than remaining unchanged. The overview mainly describes what the chart and table show instead of clearly summarising the main trends. To strengthen the response, give a concise overview of the overall pattern and ensure the figures in the body match the visual.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a general paragraph, and two paragraphs reporting category values and percentage changes. Sequencing expressions such as “To begin with,” “Moreover,” and “Finally” help guide the reader through the information. However, the overview repeats the chart’s axes and the table’s purpose rather than establishing the main comparisons, so progression from the overview to the details is not fully effective. Some linking words, including “Afterwards” and “Furthermore,” feel mechanical or do not show a precise relationship between the figures. Grouping the categories by pattern—for example, the highest earners, the decline, and the strongest growth—would make the comparisons more cohesive and purposeful.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “export revenue,” “declined,” “percentage change,” and “increased,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more formal reporting language, such as “shipments” and “proportion.” Some choices are inaccurate or awkward for this context: “export earning” is better expressed as “export earnings,” while “petroleum products proportion” does not describe the change in value clearly. “Almost same” and “earned amount” are also imprecise, and “alomost” is misspelled. Aim for consistent, natural collocations such as “export value,” “recorded an increase,” and “remained broadly stable.” This would improve precision without requiring more complicated vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses with “as” and “which,” and most of the information remains understandable. Some grammatical errors are noticeable, however. For example, “The chart have” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, and “engineered goods export revenue increase” has an incorrect verb form. The opening phrase “between two years 2015 and 2016” is also awkwardly constructed, while “in both years( 2015 and 2016)” shows inconsistent punctuation spacing. There are errors with articles, plurals, and sentence construction in phrases such as “the export” and “$60.2 billions.” Review agreement and past-tense consistency, and proofread punctuation and noun forms while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
