Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response identifies several percentage changes, but it does not accurately report the chart’s main trends. In particular, it says gems and jewellery “has increased into 5.18%,” whereas this category fell by 5.18%; it also describes petroleum as a “very big drawback,” although its value rose by 3%. The overview is unclear and does not summarise the key pattern: petroleum products remained the highest earner, while textiles recorded the strongest growth. The response also omits the actual export values and gives little comparison between 2015 and 2016. It is eight words below the required minimum. To address the task more fully, include a clear overview and accurately compare the main figures and changes.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation: the response begins with an introduction, attempts an overview, and then discusses categories, using phrases such as “Overall” and “Looking first at the textiles.” However, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview is unclear and the final long sentence combines several categories and conclusions without clear boundaries. Connections between ideas are sometimes confusing—for example, the shift from textiles to engineered goods and then to gems is not signposted consistently. Paragraphing is also limited, with most details crowded into one sentence. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and key comparisons, and organise categories into clear groups, such as those that rose and the one that declined.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response attempts task-related vocabulary, including “exports,” “category,” “percentage,” and “economic resources,” and uses some variation rather than repeating one basic term throughout. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or unclear: “exports earning,” “financial experties,” “major change,” and “very big drawback” do not express the chart’s information naturally. Several spelling errors, including “corpration,” “bussiness,” and “comparetively,” also make the text harder to read. Some terms are used imprecisely: “increased” is applied to gems and jewellery despite its decline. Build a reliable set of chart-description phrases and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts longer sentences and uses basic linking structures, but the range is limited and complex sentences are often difficult to control. For example, “Overall it enhances that in 2016 it has a major change” has an unclear clause structure and inconsistent tense, while the final sentence beginning “as in not much of improvement” lacks a clear grammatical connection to the preceding ideas. There are also recurring errors with articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, as in “the category of agricultural good” and the extended sentence listing several categories. These problems sometimes obscure the intended meaning. Practise writing short, complete comparison sentences first, then combine them with accurate clauses such as “while” or “whereas.”
