Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the two visuals and include a general overview, noting that textiles rose most and gems and jewellery declined. You also report figures for all five categories, so the response covers the main subject. However, the overview is unclear (“both of product categories was chnage some are less and some are up”), and several figures are inaccurate: engineered goods are about $57 billion in 2015 and $62 billion in 2016, not $55 billion and $61 billion; gems and jewellery are about $43 billion and $41 billion, rather than $42 billion and $40 billion. The percentage changes are also described without clearly distinguishing the table from the chart. A clearer overview and more accurate, selectively compared figures would make the key features more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is some paragraphing, and the response moves from an introduction to general comments and then to category figures. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the second and third paragraphs repeat percentage-change information before the chart values are presented. Linking phrases such as “Overall,” “In the years of 2015 and 2016,” and “Now we can discuss” do not consistently clarify how the points relate. The final paragraph lists categories in sequence but does not group or compare them, and references such as “the products” are sometimes unclear. Organise the response into a concise overview followed by logically grouped comparisons, and use linking language only where it makes relationships explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “exports,” “percentage change,” “export earnings,” and “decrease,” which helps convey the topic. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, such as “huge increase up to,” “the percentage of the products was $40 billion,” and “value of textiles was increase up.” Spelling errors, including “chnage,” “percerntage,” and “comapred,” also make the writing less clear. Choose precise verbs for chart descriptions, such as “rose,” “fell,” and “remained stable,” and use “value” or “earnings” consistently for dollar amounts. This would improve clarity and make the vocabulary more appropriate to an academic report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts a few longer sentence patterns, but most sentences rely on simple structures, and errors frequently affect clarity. For example, “both of product categories was chnage” has problems with the subject, verb form, and sentence construction; “the engineered goods was” also has subject–verb disagreement. In “In 2016 the percentage of the products was $40 billion,” the grammatical structure does not clearly express the intended value. Articles, plurals, and verb forms are also inconsistently controlled. Practise accurate comparative sentences such as “Petroleum exports rose from about $61 billion to $63 billion,” and check agreement and tense in each sentence. More reliable control of basic structures is needed before adding complexity.
